2-Alarm Downtown Apartment Fire Sends 2 To The Hospital

It happened at the River View Tower at Golden Gateway (former Jaycee Tower I). At 12:11 a.m., Red Shift companies responded to 500 W. Martin Luther King Boulevard after 911 received multiple alerts from the high rise tower's fire alarm system. Responding personnel found that a fire in the trash chute had filled multiple floors with smoke. A second alarm was called to bring additional crews to the scene to assist with ventilation to remove smoke from several floors, as well as the evacuation of residents. Fire officials said, "Due to the size of the apartment tower, this was a big operation that was very labor intensive for firefighters." Traffic Stop On Market Street Leads To 2 Arrests; Firearm Recovered

HCSO arrests a man in connection to a fight at a Chattanooga high school basketball game

The affidavit about the incident says an HCSO deputy was stationed at the entrance of the basketball game. Mountain Creek Quarry Property To Become A Park Following $1,740,000 TDEC Acquisition Grant

The City Council at its Dec. 16 meeting is to consider a resolution to accept funds from the state of Tennessee Department of'Environment and Conservation (TDEC) Local Parks Acquisition Fund for the purchase of the Mountain'Creek Quarry for use as a park. The grant is for $1,740,000. The property includes open space, an old quarry, and springs and ponds including Read's Lake. It also is the site of the tallest post oak in the U.S. at 112 feet. Residents say the former golf course property is a haven for wildlife, including river otters, deer, wild turkeys, fox, bobcats and waterfowl.
